Request a reimbursement from your employer with this sample letter

International Living Future Institute events represent a gathering of the sustainable design industry’s leaders, policy-makers, and innovators. As such, we recognize the value for the Zero Carbon conference for existing employees and their organizations. That’s why we have drafted this sample letter for those requesting funding or reimbursement.

Dear [Supervisor’s Name],

I would like to attend the inaugural Zero Carbon Conference event hosted online by the International Living Future Institute (ILFI), October 7-8, 2020. ILFI has been at the forefront of attracting leading thinkers in sustainability, regenerative design, and the built environment hailing from industries ranging from architecture and manufacturing to government and non-profits. This year’s event will be headlined by Tom Steyer and Dr. Georges Benjamin.

As we enter the decade to deliver on climate goals,  the business case for sustainable change has never been more clear. At the beginning of this year, BlackRock CEO Larry Fink wrote an open letter to CEOs outlining the importance of sustainable capitalism. Big companies are taking bold steps, such as Amazon and Microsoft, who have both made ambitious carbon commitments.

ILFI’s Zero Carbon Conference stands at the intersection of business, finance and climate action. The conference will bring together developers, architects, engineers, manufacturers and investors to accelerate and scale the decarbonization movement and help us stay ahead of the implementation curve. As an attendee, I’ll have the opportunity to choose from sixteen live sessions (with the ability to watch all recorded content) focused on embodied carbon, operational carbon, and financing. I’ve reviewed the conference schedule, and I’m planning to attend the following sessions, which most align with our mission. [check out our schedule to outline the sessions you plan to attend + the benefits they’ll have for your organization] There is also time in the schedule to participate in group and one-to-one networking to forge partnerships and learn from others.

My projected costs for attending Living Future are [insert cost – members, remember to factor in your discount!]. If we send a team, we can also take advantage of the group discount rate while increasing our learning opportunities!

Attending the Zero Carbon Conference  is an investment in professional development that will enable me to learn, explore, and discuss new practices that can benefit us as an institution. As we now sit just a decade out from 2030, these opportunities will not only impact [organization’s] bottom line but the bottom line for climate change.
